Seamer Gus Atkinson Adds to the English team's Injury Problems.

'Serious blow' for the touring side after Atkinson goes off suffering a hamstring problem.

Gus Atkinson further complicated England's injury problems after leaving the field during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.

The pace bowler felt a problem in his left hamstring immediately following a delivery of the fourth over during the morning session.

The England team indicated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and would spend time off the field for further assessment "in the coming hours".

The concluding match of the series in Sydney starts on Sunday, 4 January.

England have previously lost fast bowlers Mark Wood due to knee trouble and another paceman because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.

A replacement bowler was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.

His form was underwhelming early in the series, claiming a mere a handful of scalps.

He was left out for the Adelaide match, then recalled for the Melbourne Test to fill the void.

The county bowler improved at the MCG, claiming a couple of wickets with the ball, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman among just a trio of teammates who passed ten runs.

After bowling one over late on the first day, he came back for the second day's play and had nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

However, on the final ball of the fifth over, he sent down a variation to the batsman and promptly felt for his hamstring.

The English bowler returned to the side for the Boxing Day Test after being left out of the third.
