Iran Reports Strike on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any damage is uncertain and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.
It said debris landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
