Former Physician Charged with Sexual Assault Charges Involving Thirty-Eight Patients
Prosecutors have stated that a ex- doctor stands accused of carrying out assaults involving thirty-eight individuals who were under his care.
The Serious Charges
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous acts of sexual assault – including acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 to 2021.
One deputy chief CPS official commented, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to support a thorough and intricate investigation, meticulously examining the evidence to establish that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
The Investigation
The charges follow what investigators described as a “detailed inquiry” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.
The defendant is scheduled to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.
List of Charges
Prosecutors said the 45 sexual offences comprise:
- 15 counts of sexual assault.
- Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
- Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
